The perfect love reference book
‘Rut badalnay lagi’ is Col. Syed Maqbool Hussain’s seventh poetry collection, which reveals that he is still young at heart, and portrays the indescribable feelings that first love inspires:
Jo sham aa gayee hai December ki lout kar
Umray rawan ki guzri hui baat thi kabhi
Be careful, if you recite this verse loud in front of your life-partner, she may give you the stink eye.
We all remember our first sudden, irrepressible, wild and all-encompassing joy of first love.
The first love experience has not been described in so much detail by any poet as Syed has depicted. Those were captivating days for him. His college-time book of poetry ‘Mutti mein dukh’ reminds us all that, once upon a time, we were young:
Teri yadoun ko kisi roz bhulaana ho ga
Woh darkhtoun pe likha naam matana ho ga
‘Rut badalnay lagi’ and ‘Mutti mein dukh’ are collections of poetry that many will be able to connect with, whether they are teenagers, or basking in the glow of yesteryear:
Meray khaboun mein wohee rooh wohee jism hai raqsaan
Jis ki aankhoun mein chlakhta hai bhara jam abi tak
Bearing in mind the age in which ‘Mutti mein dukh’ was written and the fact that the words are still poignant is amazing. On the Valentine’s Day, this little gem of a book would be the best gift. I’d recommend this book of poetry to all those who have experienced the first bloom of love, a feeling that’s never-ending:
Main ghunghroo baandh kay naacha tha aik din Syed
Dayyaaray yaar mein ab tak jo naam baaqi hai
Through his poems Syed shares his reflections on the many facets of life. The expressiveness of his poetry has been enriched by his larger than life experience. His writing is heartwarming, inspiring and sensitive. Every perfectly written verse evokes different emotions.
Syed’s poetry is a first-rate work dealing with all the major topics of the heart including Isolation, chasm, body and soul, illusion, beauty etc. To top it all, his poetry is not just a collection of Ghazals and Nazms about similar topics; it is a true opening of the poet’s heart in a beautiful series of poems. Syed’s style of writing generally speaking is delicate, the words are perfectly selected, the syntax is heartrending, and the stylistic devices help us understand the message better and make the reading of his poetry a moment of pure delight:
Aankh farozaan karnay walay
Dukh se shabnam dhonay walay
Soch samaj kay rona ab kay
Kiunkay aksar ronay walay
Apnay Aansoo kho daitay hain
Mutti mein dukh bou daitay hain
Thank you so much Syed Maqbool Hussain for sharing such a gem!
