The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has announced the cancellation of a central public meeting scheduled to be held in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh today to mark the 36th death anniversary of its founder, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, due to torrential rains in the area.
The meeting was cancelled after its designated venue was inundated with rainwater on Friday, said a statement issued by the PPP media cell incharge in Sindh, Senator Saeed Ghani.
The cancellation of the meeting was necessary to spare activists and supporters of the party from undue hardships, it added.
According to the statement, a programme on a limited scale would now be held at the Naudero House in Larkana to mark Bhutto’s death anniversary.
The event will be attended by leaders, parliamentarians and activists of the party belonging to Sukkur Division, Benazirabad, and Dadu.
Former president and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and other central leaders would address the programme.
The party will also organise programmes at the district level to mark the death anniversary of Bhutto.
The party activists belonging to remote parts of the country have been advised to hold functions in their localities instead of coming to Garhi Khuda Bakhsh.
