LAHORE: The South Asia Partnership Pakistan, in collaboration with an NGO ‘We Can’, organised the second children assembly on Tuesday at the Ali Institute Auditorium. This year the assembly was dedicated to the martyrs of the attack on the Army Public School, Peshawar.
Children, both girls and boys and their teachers from 15 schools in the provincial metropolis, participated in this assembly and performed various skits. Their basic focus was to demand security for the children, not to keep quiet, but to say and act to achieve the goal to educate every child in Pakistan that this was going to be our revenge from those cowards who attacked and killed innocent children and teachers to highlight the importance of education.
They demanded the provision of psycho-social support to children to overcome that fear whenever they recalled the brutal attack by the coward terrorists at Army Public School Peshawar and when they looked at the safety measures and gunmen sitting on the rooftops of their schools, how they felt about and they said that was this an enabling environment for getting education at school and they and their parents felt insecure in such an environment.
The programme was mainly presented by children and was focused on the theme “Empower Youth and Save the Future.” Children showed in this programme that how they perceived Pakistan after 10 years as the next young generation of country under a panel discussion.
Abdul Mannan, Usman, and Mehwish Shoukat moderated the panel discussion. Children also conducted another panel discussion on the subject. The children, speaking in the panel, raised five main points on the challenges facing youth and how to resolve them. Stories based on their knowledge, they also took the oath for being the best Pakistani students to their ability.
Punjab Government officials Ghulam Husain, DDO Education, Kamran from Literacy Department Punjab, Haji Nazeer Butt, Vice-President PML (N) Lahore, and Rizwan Butt, PML (N) from Youth Council Punjab also participated in the Children Assembly. Children also displayed their paintings on peace, and their vision that how they looked their motherland free from conflicts, violence and terrorism.
