KARACHI: Pakistan’s tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi has been signed by “California Dream” for the 2015 season of Mylan World Team Tennis — a tennis league that has been a highlight of the annual US tennis calendar for the past 34 years.
The other members of the team are Anabel Medina (Spain), the Bryan’ brothers (USA), Jarka Gajdosova (USA) and Tennys Sandgren (USA). The Dream will play seven home matches this July on a specially-constructed stadium at Sunrise Mall.
According to the format of the league, each team comprises two men, two women and a coach. Team matches consist of five sets, with one set each of men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
The first team to reach five games wins each set. One point is awarded for each game won, and a nine-point tiebreaker is played if a set reaches four all. If necessary, Extended Play and a “Super tiebreaker” are played to determine the outright winner of the match.
Aisam will play his fourth season of Mylan WTT and first with the California Dream. He played for Texas in 2013-14 and Kansas City in 2012.
He will also play ATP Challenger namely San Luis Potosi in Mexico this week, his partner in men’s doubles category is Mariusz Pol Frystenberg.
