KARACHI: The KMC will organise summer camps for school children after Ramadan at its Kashmir Road sports complex for boys and Women Sports Complex for girls.

This year too one month of the vacations fell in Ramadan, due to which the importance of summer camps has further increased as children will have only one month to dedicate to sports activities. KMC used to organise these camps in the past at various places in the city. But this year only two places have been chosen because of financial constraints.

KMC sports, culture and recreation department has included painting, sculpture and music in the summer camps. These activities will be held at Kashmir Road sports complex, WSC and Markaz-e-Ilm-o Saqafat, sources said.

Director of KMC sports, culture and recreation department said that despite a lot of hurdles, the department was providing a lot of facilities to entertain the children under the supervision of qualified coaches and experts.

He said that details would be announced through an advertisement in the last days of Ramadan. He said that the planning of the summer camps was in the initial stage. “We will see if we can extend the summer camps to other sports complexes, and gymnasiums. We will send a comprehensive programme to get the approval of KMC high-ups,” he added.

It is pertinent to note that Landhi sports complex was completed three years ago but has not been opened yet. Its facilities include swimming pool and tennis courts. At WSC, all indoor games, including swimming, will be organised. Yoga classes will also be held. The sports disciplines which will be part of these summer camps are table tennis, badminton, tae-kwondo, and swimming.
