Race to the finish
The tenure of the PML-N-led government is nearing its completion. All political parties have started their campaigns to not only woo voters, but to also convince politicians – who have a better chance of winning – to enter their party. Gone are the days when politicians would remain loyal to one party and support the party’s ideology. In 1985, PPP members ditched the party and contested as independent candidates and became ministers.
In the same manner, the 2008 general election witnessed a switch in the loyalty of many PML-N members. They joined the PPP in 2008 and switched to the PML-N during the 2013 general election. Often, party members would join a party that has a better chance of winning. This time, politicians are joining the PTI. But who knows which party will win the upcoming elections. The PTI is not the only option.
