According to media reports, the government is planning to introduce reforms in the bureaucracy. According to a rough estimate, there are 8,000 PhDs in Pakistan. In a country with more than 180 million people, this figure does not offer much hope.
It is time the government gave highly qualified professionals representation in the civil service of Pakistan. Most civil servants have a Bachelors degree. Having people with a doctorate degree in senior positions will surely improve planning, governance and above all encourage the younger generation to improve their education and skills.
