CHARSADDA: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) employees staged protest against the torture on their fellows by the alleged electricity thieves in Khanmai here on Tuesday.
The Pesco officials along with local police were carrying out a drive against electricity thieves in Dara Killay when the villagers got hold of the employees and tortured them. The villagers also roughed up the Station House Officer Irfanullah and other cops.
The Pesco officials closed their offices and staged a protest against the villagers. The protesters chanted slogans against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
Speaking on the occasion, Wapda Hydro Union chairman Ikramullah Khan said that the Pesco had established a Wapda Police Station in Charsadda where 55 cops had been deployed.
He added that the Pesco were paying their salaries while the influential people in the district who were defaulters and were against such drives had instigated the villagers.
Meanwhile, the villagers also staged protest against Pesco and police. Speaking to the protesters, PTI leader Fazal Muhammad Khan said that his party did not believe in interference in departments.
