NOWSHERA: The Ummah Welfare Trust (UWT) United Kingdom Chairman Maulana Muhammad Idrees said on Sunday all the Muslims should play a role to overcome the challenges faced by the Islamic world.

The Muslims are facing tough times everywhere. The expatriate Muslims alone cannot shoulder the responsibilities of running such big charities. The philanthropists from Pakistan will have to come forward to take these responsibilities,” he suggested.

Maulana Muhammad Idrees was speaking as a chief guest at a ceremony arranged to hand over Ramazan Package and Eid gifts among the children being facilitated at the Ummah Children Academy here.

Major (Retd) Akram Khan, Mardan Tehsil Nazim Mushtaq Seemab, Maulana Ahmad Ali, Mufti Muhammad Ilyas, UWT Country Director Sahibzada Muhammad Imran, and a telecast journalist, Yousaf Jan, spoke on the occasion as well.

People present on the occasion announced huge donations to the UWT. Maulana Ahmad Ali announced to donate four kanals of land and huge cash assistance on behalf of the Business Forum.

Other philanthropists promised cash donations and pledged to foot the annual expenses incurred on the rearing of the orphan children.

Maulana Muhammad Idrees said the UWT and other charities would be able to continue charitable work for the widows orphans and if the philanthropists extended them a helping hand.

The UWT UK chief said he was highly impressed by the passion of the Pakistanis for philanthropy and social service.

The Maulana said the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said that those supporting orphans, would be in paradise very close to him. He said Allah increases the wealth of the philanthropists, adding the Muslims should act upon the injunctions of the Holy Quran and Sunnah by offering worship and spending in the way of Allah.

UWT Country Director Sahibzada Muhammad Imran in his address said that up to 850 orphan children were receiving education at the Ummah Children Academy. He said their boarding, lodging and other needs were being met by the academy.

The official said 103 students from the academy were now enrolled at different professional colleges. Of them, he added, 28 students are studying medical and engineering education.

Sahibzada Muhammad Imran said several students from the academy performed well in the Matriculation and FSc examinations by achieving A plus grade. This proves the team work of the teachers, he pointed out.

About the religious education, the UWT country director said that 200 students at the academy were learning the Holy Quran by heart and 40 of them had completed “hifz”. He said proper attention was being given to the co-curricular activities to groom the students.

Sahibzada Muhammad Imran said the Ummah Children Academy would distribute Ramazan Package to 55,000 deserving people this year. The recipients will include people from all the four provinces of Pakistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Afghanistan. He said the UWT was carrying out welfare activities 28 countries, including Myanmar, Syria and Iraq.

The official said the Eid gifts will be distributed to 18,000 children and the cost would stand at 25 million.

The speeches were followed by distribution of Ramazan Package and Eid gifts among 850 children at the academy.
