Road safety awareness week held at SLS
Rawalpindi: All campuses of Sadeeqa’s Learning System (SLS) Montessori & High School marked the UN Global Road Safety Week in a series of week-long activities, says a press release.
The Road Safety Awareness Week conducted at SLS, Tufail Road Branch had several activities in which all the students actively participated to spread awareness on the issue of road safety and other problems related to it.
The week started off with morning assemblies conducted by grade 7 and 8 students focusing on the advantages and disadvantages of different modes of transport. The students also spread awareness on issues such as safety, pollution, health hazards and the over-all well-being of community members.
An information corner was also set up for this purpose by grade 10 students where they shared some facts and information about road safety and also guided the rest about following them. An art activity also took place in which the students made posters, slogans and placards with different road safety rules and signs displayed on them in bright colours.
Students of Grade 8 and 9 along with their teachers volunteered to work with The City Traffic Police Rawalpindi on their ‘Road Safety Awareness Programme.’ The smartly dressed up SLS students were stationed on the road, holding placards, banners and road signs which they prepared themselves. Watchful and alert, they stood with the traffic police to remind people what ‘mindful driving’ means.
The children also distributed pamphlets providing necessary information regarding road and traffic rules to the people on the road. Some caring community members stopped to appreciate the children for their efforts and even joined them in this community service.
The students were joined by Capt (r) Bilal Iftikhar – chief traffic officer, City Traffic Police Rawalpindi as they stood by the road side. The students and teachers were appreciated by him for taking up this community service project and playing an important role in shaping the attitudes and behaviours of pedestrians and drivers.
