Gangsters among 14 suspects arrested

Fourteen suspects, including Lyari gangsters, were rounded up by the paramilitary Rangers force in raids across the city on Wednesday.

According to the spokesperson, the troops conducted an intelligence-based targeted raid in Baghdadi, from where they arrested six gangsters and shifted them to the headquarters. The suspects were identified as Abdullah, Shah Nawaz alias Shani, Abdul Shakoor, Waris Majeed and Ayyaz Ali, who belongs to Lyari’s Ghaffar Zikri group, while a gangster Umer Rehan of Arshad Pappu group was also booked.

All the arrested gangsters were involved in numerous cases of target killings, extortion and other criminal offences, the spokesperson said. Rangers also arrested Mushtaq Ahmed Bhatti alias Kala from Zaman Town area. He was also said to be involved in target killings, extortion and other such crimes.

Moreover, raids were also conducted in New Karachi, Nabi Bux and Landhi from where three suspects identified as Mohammad Ashraf, Mohammad Nabil and Hazart Ali alias Lala Jee were held. They were said to be involved in criminal offences including street crime, possession of illegal weapons as well as the sale and purchase of snatched cell phones.

The force also conducted raids in Garden and Zaman Town from where they arrested four drug peddlers identified as Mohammad Akmal, Akbar, Masood Ahmed alias Manzoor Baloch, and Mohammad Asif alias Lamba. The arrested men were operating drug dens from their respective areas.

Weapons, looted items and narcotics were recovered from the possession of all the suspects and they were later handed over to local police for further legal proceedings.

Police action

Meanwhile, the District West police also claimed to have busted a network of street criminals and murderers, and arrested six outlaws in raids.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Omer Shahid Hamid of District West said that the police conducted a raid at Qasba Morr, Manghopir and after an encounter arrested six accused, who were shifted to the headquarters.

The suspects were identified as Allah Rakha alias Fauji, Nasir Latif alias Hammad, Atif alias Naana, Ahmed alias MA, Kamran Khattak and Mohammad Adnan. Six pistols and several cell phones were recovered from their possession. During interrogation, three of the suspects disclosed that they along with their other accomplices have committed several street crimes and armed robberies in different parts of the city.

They further told police that on April 23 they had stabbed a person to death at main Manghopir Road for resisting a robbery attempt. Police recovered the murder weapon, a dagger, from their possession.

The suspects also confessed to street crime offences at Manghopir Road, as well as in Board Office, North Nazimabad, Hussainabad, Malir and Korangi. They said they used to rob pedestrians and commuters using motorcycles and cars, and also used to snatch jewellery from women standing at bus stands. The police have also recovered a cutter from the possession of accused, Nasir Latif, which he used to cut the jewellery during snatching.
