Thanks a lot: Imran
ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Islamabad on Friday acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan in the torture case of SSP Asmatullah Junejo during the 2014 sit-in.
The ATC Judge, Shahrukh Arjamand, announced the judgment, earlier reserved on April 13, after completion of arguments from both the sides in a petition filed by Imran Khan seeking acquittal from the charges.
The decision was not announced during the last hearing due to the absence of the PTI chief. The court had warned Imran Khan that his arrest warrants would be issued if he failed to appear before the court on next hearing.
As the PTI chief appeared in court on Friday, the ATC judge ruled in his favour citing lack of evidence. After the judgment was read out, Imran said, "Thank you very much" in Urdu, Geo News reported.
Earlier, the counsel of PTI chief Dr Babar Awan argued that neither the victim SSP nor any witness in the case had named his client for the incident. After hearing the arguments, the court acquitted Imran Khan.
