Over Rs10m looted from van on KKH

MANSEHRA: Armed robbers impersonating as army men deprived a currency exchange company of over Rs10 million in cash. The cash carrying bulletproof vehicle of Pakistan Currency Exchange Company was on the way to Abbottabad from Mansehra when armed robbers impersonating as army men intercepted it for checking near Mangal area at Karakoram Highway (KKH).

The gunmen overpowered the driver and two guards after forcibly reopening the gate of the vehicle. The robbers abandoned the vehicle at Mirpur area of Abbottabad. The three staffers, who were blindfolded, were thrown at various places after being threatened with dire consequences.

“The police have failed to check such crimes on the KKH as we lost over Rs40 million in a similar robbery incident two months back,” said Malik Bostan, the owner of currency exchange company.

“It is ironic that neither Mansehra nor Abbottabad police are lodging the first information report (FIR) of the robbery,” he said. He added that he had lodged an online FIR after police of both the districts refused to register the case. “The police have failed to provide us security. We would wind up our business if this situation persists,” he added.
