3,715 UET graduates awarded degrees

LAHORE
The 21st convocation of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) was held on Tuesday in which 3,715 students were awarded degrees while 114 distinguished students got gold medals.
Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmed was the guest of honour and UET Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid participated as chief guest on the behalf of Punjab Governor / Chancellor of the university in the convocation.
As many as 37 PhD, 89 MPhil, 255 MSc and 334 Bachelors and 1639 graduates were awarded degrees at the convocation.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mukhtar said Pakistan had produced around 4,000 PhDs since independence but UET alone had produced 37 PhD’s in this session which was a big achievement.
He advised the students that hard work should not only be for oneself but for people, society and the country as Pakistan was facing many issues such as poverty, electricity and terrorism.
Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid said higher education was critical for nation building, adding over the years the UET had played a major role in the national development and demonstrated significant progress in promotion of engineering education and research.
He added UET had also promoted linkages between university and industry. UET VC said enrollment had increased over the years but the universities were still confronted with the challenges of capacity building, infrastructure and quality.
