Seraiki festival

Lahore : The annual Seraiki Festival was held here on Saturday to highlight Seraiki culture and demand for creation of Seraiki province.

The festival was organised by Seraiki Students Council (SSC) of Punjab University. Students of different universities across Punjab, including Punjab University, Government College University, King Edward Medical University, National University of Modern Languages, attended the festival. All the girl and boy students who visited the venue wore Seraiki Ajrak and Seraiki caps.

According to SSC Chairman Moazzam Ali Shah, Seraiki people are a peaceful nation. "We want Seraikistan province peacefully and it is fair demand of our people," he said. "Peace and attachment with the soil could be observed in our folk dance, Jhoomer," he said, adding "Every step of our Jhoomer gives lesson of peace."

Seraikistan Qaum Council Central Chairman Zahoor Dhareja appreciated the students who arranged the beautiful festival. He demanded separate quota system in Central Superior Services. He demanded the government establish Civil Secretariat in Multan.

He called for setting up Public Service Commission and Revenue Board in Multan. He also demanded 50 percent of the Punjab budget for Seraiki Wasaib.

According to him, the Punjab government should teach children in Seraiki language at primary level in the Wasabi which was one their fundamental rights. Moreover, Seraiki subject be taught at every university of Seraiki Wasaib. The Pashtoon Council chairman supported Seraiki students.
