The Executive Committee of the Mohajir Rabita Council (MRC) said on Sunday the ongoing operation that was meant to curb crime and eliminate criminals was deliberately diverted against the Mohajirs under which innocent people were being killed.
In a statement, it condemned the killings and said it was 1992 when a similar operation was planned during the Nawaz Sharif government seemingly against 72 big fish, but that action was turned into a military operation against Mohajirs.
Subsequent to that military operation, thousands of the innocent Mohajirs were extrajudicially murdered, the sanctity of residential premises of Mohajirs was grossly violated and Mohajirs were publicly humiliated.
The MRC said that due to the bias of Prime Minister Sharif, the establishment had once again been made active through a planned operation against the Mohajirs through the paramilitary force, which was condemnable.
It added that the Mohajirs had demanded a separate province for which they were being subjected to killings and arrests. “To date, thousands of innocent Mohajirs have been murdered extrajudicially on the pretext of the targeted operation.”
The committee deplored that human rights organisations, both in the country and abroad, were silent on the killing of the Mohajirs, while Rangers were arresting innocent Mohajirs after laying siege to their colonies, and those arrested were being subjected to torture.
The chief justice of Pakistan should play his role for the prevention of killings of innocent Mohajirs, and also take steps for saving them, it urged.
The committee also demanded of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and Asia Watch to come forward for saving the innocent Mohajirs and raise their voice at all international forums against injustice.
