Islamabad: Pakistan National Council of the Arts, Alliance Francaise and Embassy of France join hands to launch their joint Cine Club with French film ‘The Young Lieutenant’ (Le Petit Lieutenant) in PNCA Lecture Hall tomorrow (April 25), at 6 p.m.

The Young Lieutenant from 2005, directed by Yavier Beauvois, brings French superstar Nathalle Baye in an important role of police commander, sober recovering alcoholic, who has lost her seven-years-old son. The police drama also introduces Jalil Lespert, a young graduate from police academy whose wife prefers to live in the village and he must stay in Paris alone. This beings the police commander close to young officer.

The film shows us everyday life of police officers. We see them waiting for crisis which may come with death of homeless and others. The film brings out the mistakes we make in our mundane life at workplace and home. The young officer's life at home without family is dull and uninteresting. The jewel of the film is Nathalle Baye and her performance who is both tough and vulnerable, facing tragedies and social ills. And for this subtle performance, she was rewarded with French top film award Cesar as Best Actress. The film also won nominations for Best Film, Direction and Screenplay from Cesar and at Venice Film festival.

The film audiences at PNCA would watch with interest ‘The Young Lieutenant’, a film which explores the genre of social drama with a story what a film critic calls "As admission that some stories, like some lives, don't resolve. They just end."
