LAHORE: An additional district and sessions court has restrained one Mushtaq Ahmad, owner of a publishing company of Urdu Bazaar, from publishing books of a translator cum researcher on a petition moved by the researcher under Copyrights Act of 1962.

The court has issued stay orders on a petition moved by researcher and translator Yasir Jawad through his counsel Sabahat Rizvi.

The petitioner in his petition contended that a publishing company printed his nine books without taking his permission and selling published books illegally. He contended that the publishing house has violated Copyrights Act of 1962. The researcher said he had translated those books for another publishing company but the publishing company of Mushtaq Ahmad not only published those books but also kept on selling them illegally.

On plea of the petitioner, the court has restrained publishing house from publishing and distributing books of the petitioner. It is pertinent to mention here that the court had issued repeated notices to the publishing house but no one turned up from them.

Now, the court has issued final notice to Mushtaq Ahmad by April 24. In case of no response from publishing house by April 24, the court can initiate contempt of the court proceedings against the publishing house.
