Authorities destroy poppy crop in Bara

BARA: The political administration of Khyber Agency on Monday destroyed poppy crop in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency, an official said.Assistant Political Agent Bara Asmatullah Wazir told The News that on the directives of Political Agent Islam Zeb, the political tehsildar of Bara and Khassadars visited the area and destroyed poppy crop over 64 kanals land in Chura area of the Malikdinkhel tribe.

Asmatullah Wazir said that the political administration did not allow growing the poppy crop and also banned other intoxicant materials.“The political administration has already banned the crop in Maidan area in Tirah valley,” he said.The official added that thousands of kilograms hashish had been seized at various checkposts in Bara subdivision.

He said several hundred kilograms hashish, opium and heroin were set on fire in Levies centre recently.The APA said that the political administration had banned business of the hashish and opium in the markets in Bara several years ago.
