TLP workers have once again blocked the exit and entry points to Lahore, creating pandemonium. These workers demanded the withdrawal of criminal cases filed against them on court orders. Such scenes were witnessed in other parts of the country as well. The question that arises is: how can we choose to be oblivious to this threat? Men holding batons and sticks are demanding immunity from the law. Given the upcoming elections and political crisis engulfing ruling party, the party seems to be handicapped.
The very foundation on which the country functions is the supremacy of the constitution. If this is allowed to be challenged and compromised, chaos will ensue. The 2017 Faizabad dharna by the TLP was declared unlawful by the superior judiciary and warrants of arrest were issued against those who were found to be guilty of gross violations of law, including holding uniformed law enforcement personnel hostage and inflicting serious injuries on them and other citizens.
