KARACHI: The judicial commission, probing non-provision of clean drinking water, sanitation and healthy environment to the people of the province, on Monday ordered that secretary training management and research wing of service department Syed Asif Haider Shah shall assist the water commission on all issues related to Karachi being member of the task force, constituted to implement the water and sanitation schemes in the province.
The commission headed by Justice (retd) Amir Hani Muslim ordered that managing director Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, DG Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, all District Municipal Corporations, Sindh Building Control Authority, Sindh Environmental Protection Agency and all related agencies shall be reporting to him in issues either referred by commission or otherwise. The commission directed that Asif Shah will be examining their working in terms of work plan submitted before the commission.
Syed Asif Haider Shah has been appointed as secretary training management and research wing of Services department. The Sindh government before replacing him as secretary public health engineering on personal reasons, had assured that Mr. Shah will remain a member of the task force even if he is posted against any office within Sindh. The commission had deferred the issue regarding appointment of deputy commissioners as coordinators of the public health schemes and municipal functions till Tuesday for hearing the viewpoints of the chief secretary and the chairman planning and development.
Meanwhile, the Sindh High Court granted protective bail to co-accused involved in sodomy case with direction to surrender before the the trial court within five days. Amar Waqas Memon was named as co-accused along with MNA’s son and others accused of committing sodomy with poor boy of Hindu community in Darro area. According to the prosecution, Arbab Ibrahim Memon, who is son of MNA Arbab Rameezuddin Memon from Sajjawal, along with another accomplice allegedly committed sodomy with Parkash in Darro area and uploaded the video on social networking sites. The police had arrested three suspects including main accused Ibrahim Memon and investigation is under way.
