ECP directs MML to submit affidavit, workers detail

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Monday asked Milli Muslim League to submit an affidavit and detail of 2,000 workers and submit ‘registration’ fee as well.

The Election Commission bench began hearing the MML application for enlistment, following an order by the Islamabad High Court, asking the electoral body to hear the matter afresh. The three-member bench asked MML lawyer had they brought along lists of 2,000 members and slip of enlistment fee.

The MML lawyer contended that the bench might first enlist MML and then they would fulfill all formalities. He also clarified that the application was filed in the Election Commission in August last and at that time, there was no such law enacted about enlistment of a political party.

The bench also asked the lawyer to either get MML name cleared from the Ministry of Interior or bring along an affidavit and submit to the Election Commission before or at the time of next hearing.

The MML lawyer said that neither any leader nor a worker of MML was involved in any illegal activity and also there was no case as such against any one of them. He also maintained they need not to secure clearance from the ministry.

The hearing was then adjourned till May 2, asking the lawyer to submit an affidavit regarding allegations against MML.
