Zero tolerance against corruption: NAB chief

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry Monday said they believed in zero tolerance against corruption and all officers/officials should work vigilantly, honestly and diligently to curb corruption and corrupt practices.
Chaudhry visited NAB Rawalpindi/Islamabad Bureau Monday to review performance of the regional bureau.Director General (DG) NAB Rawalpindi/Islamabad along with his team briefed him about current status of Rental Power Projects (RPPs) especially recovery made in RPPs cases and Modarba/Musharika cases and recovery made so far and investigations in these cases underway in NAB Rawalpindi.
DG highlighted strengths and weakness of NAB Rawalpindi/ Islamabad regional bureau. The chairman said that NAB Rawalpindi/Islamabad is dealing with important cases. “It plays a prominent role in contributing towards the overall performance of NAB,” he added.
During the briefing, the chairman was informed that NAB Rawalpindi was presently dealing with 12 RPPs cases and filed 5 references including Karkey Ship, Piranghaib Multan, Sahiwal Sailkot, Guddu Sindh, Naudero II Sindh in respective accountability courts.
The main accused in these references are Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, ex-prime minister, Shaukat Tareen, ex minister for finance, Ismail Qureshi, ex secretary, water and power/Chairman Pepco, Shahid Rafi, ex secretary/ chairman Pepco, Tahir Basharat Cheema, ex MD, Pepco. He informed that other 3 x cases of RPPs including Summundri Road, Naudero-I Sindh, Bhikki Sheikhupara are at investigation stage and 4 x RPPs cases including Sharqpur Pvt Ltd, Reshma Power Generation, Raiwand, Young Gen Power Ltd and Gulf Rental Power Pvt Ltd are at inquiry stage.
The Regional NAB Rawalpindi/Islamabad is currently investigating 96 cases of multi-billion Modarba/Musharika scam, in which 8 cases are at reference stage, 14 are under investigation, 5 are at inquiry stage, 2 are at complaint verification stage and 67 x cases are on complaint stage.
The NAB has so far received 42819 complaints/claims from affectees of Modarba/Musharika scam. The NAB Rawalpindi/Islamabad has recovered/frozen Rs1.734 billion, houses, lands, and vehicles in modaraba scam.
DG NAB Rawalpindi informed that seven references have been filed in Accountably Court in Modarba Scam, details of references are, Fayyazi Gujrawal industries Pvt Ltd, Elixer Group, Mezban Trading Company, Al Wasay Group, Bolan City, Islamic Traders PVT LTD and Bilal Khan Bangash etc.
DG NAB Rawalpindi informed that NAB Rawalpindi Bureau has so far arrested 30 accused persons in Modarba scam. They include Ghulam Rasool Ayubi, M Khalid, Hussain Ahmed, Mufti Shabbir Usmani, Sajjad Ahmed, Muhammad Irfan, Hamid Nawaz, Mufti Ehsanul Haq, Obaidullah, Abrarul Haq, Hafiz Muhammad Nawaz, Muhammad Moeen Aslam, Umair Ahmed, Nazir Ahmed, Ibrahim Alshoriam, M Usama, Aqeel Abbasi, Saifullah, Asif Javed, Bilal khan Bangash, Khan Muhammad, Mateehur Rehman, Ijaz Anwar, Muhaamad Saqib, Muhammad Ehsan, Muhammad Nauman Qureshi, Syed Aksheed Hussain, Adil Butt, Mufti Hanif khan and Hafiz Mukhtar.
The chairman NAB appreciated performance of NAB Rawalpindi and directed to arrest all proclaimed offenders and absconders by using all resources and put them behind the bars. He directed that all complaints verifications, inquiries and investigation should be handled transparently, on the basis of evidence on merit.
The chairman appreciated performance of all wings of NAB Rawalpindi under the supervision of its new Director General Zahir Shah and wished that better results will be produced in the future. He hoped that NAB Rawalpindi will continue to work with same pace and zeal without any fear and favor.
