Pakistan is fortunate to have so many historical sites. There are at least three in just Sindh: the Ranikot Fort, Makli graveyard and Mohenjodaro. These sites are more than 100 to 200 years old. Proper maintenance and projection of these sites can earn Pakistan a lot of revenue. But that is sadly not the case. Marvels of the Subcontinent’s rich history, these sites have instead become marvels of utter neglect.
There is an absolute lack of planning, and conviction, on behalf of the concerned authorities to conserve these sites. They have become so vulnerable that a single rainstorm does them a great amount of damage. Our government should learn how other countries have preserved their culture and history. The Great Wall of China is one such example. China earns millions only through this one tourist attraction. If Pakistan wishes to, it can also do the same.
