KARACHI: President Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Ghazanfar Bilour has appointed leading industrialist Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig as Chairman of Pak-UAE Business Council for 2018.
Pak-UAE Business Council comprises heads of the leading Pakistani and UAE companies. Dr Baig has been elected unopposed with all directors on the board of Pak-UAE Business Council at a recent election, namely Nasir Schon, Asad Fecto, Haji Rafiq Giga, Khalid Masood, Sohail Yasin, Junaid Naqi, Bilal Barkat and Zubair Haider.
Dr Baig has been running business in the UAE for the last 32 years and has good connections with high officials of the government and the business community of UAE and he was instrumental to attract substantial foreign investment. The UAE was declared the single largest investor in Pakistan during 1998 to 2008.
Dr Baig has taken the FPCCI businessmen delegation to the UAE and had meetings with the minister for foreign trade, which resulted in enhancement of trade and investment between the two countries.
Dr Baig has been representing the private sector at the Pak-UAE Joint Ministerial Commission meetings for the last many years and would also represent the private sector at the Pak-UAE JMC, a forthcoming meeting to be held in Abu Dhabi.
