Despite KE authorities’ claims that the power utility has taken corrective measures to deal with the issue of prolonged loadshedding, many parts of Karachi are still facing power outages for a prolonged duration. In the past, the electricity crisis negatively affected the industrial sector, leading to the closure of many industrial units in Karachi. Besides hurting the economy, loadshedding has also snatched comfort from the lives of residents. Although the aggrieved have protested against loadshedding, the authorities concerned have failed to deal with the issue so far.
In the past, the rental power plants option was seen as a viable one, however, it only resulted in an increase in the cost of electricity and added to the people’s burden. The higher authorities must come with a well-thought-out plan to cope with the issue that is acting as a major hindrance to the growth and success of Pakistan.
