Five cops sacked for custodial killing

FAISALABAD: City Police Officer Athar Ismail on Monday demoted CIA Inspector Abdul Majeed to the rank of SI, besides sacking five policemen on the charge of custodial killing.

The accused cops, including ASIs Ali Imran and Abdul Ghafoor, Head Constable Liaqat Ali and Muhammad Ashraf, had allegedly tortured to death powerloom worker Muhammad Boota of Ghulam Muhammadabad in custody.

RAPE BID FOILED: A rape bid was foiled at Mohallah Mehdi on Monday. A five-year-old girl went to the shop of the accused to buy eatables. In the meantime, the accused shopkeeper caught the girl and tried to rape her. However, on her hue and cry, people gathered and caught the shopkeeper and manhandled him. Later, he was handed over to Sargodha Road. The police have registered a case and started investigation.

LAPTOPS DISTRIBUTION: The Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education, Faisalabad, will distribute 435 leftover laptops among talented students of various educational institutions under the Chief Minister Laptop Scheme.

The board secretary Khurram Shahzad told that the laptops would be distributed among those students who had obtained more than 990 marks in the Matriculation examination. He said that laptops would be given on March 13 (today).

BIKER KILLED IN ACCIDENT: A motorcyclist was killed in an accident near Chak 423/GB on Monday.

Muhammad Farooq of Chak 416/GB was crushed to death by a Rescue 1122 ambulance. In another incident, a man was killed on Samundri Road. Maqbool Ahmad of Chak 21/53 RB was on his way when a speeding motorbike hit his bike. As a result, he died instantly.
