24 female employees of LCWU promoted

LAHOR: On the eve of International Women’s Day, the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) promoted 24 non-gazetted women employees to next grades. LCWU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Uzma Qureshi granted promotion letters in a function held on Thursday.

Earlier, a seminar on women rights was also held. According to a press release, Justice (Retd) Nazeer Ahmad Ghazi was the chief guest who speaking on the occasion said the role of the women in national development could not be ignored. He added Pakistani women were highly intelligent and hardworking who have earned a niche in every field.

Meanwhile, the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) observed the International Women’s Day with the theme of “Press for Progress” here on Thursday.

In this connection, the university organised a walk led by UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha while UVAS Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani, other officials and a large number of female administrative staff, faculty members were present. Later, a seminar was held in the university auditorium hall. The Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmed chaired the seminar where speeches and poems were presented to highlight the women status in society.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mukhtar Ahmed said Islam granted equal rights to women. Prof Pasha said women were always encouraged to equally participate in UVAS various department activities saying 44 percent of UVAS students were females, 36 women were working in administration on various posts while 44 female faculty members were teaching in different departments of UVAS. Prof Dr Kosar Jamal Cheema also spoke. Poetry: University of Education organised its annual English poetry contest at the university’s Township Campus here Thursday.

Renowned English poet Athar Tahir was the chief guest on this occasion. He distributed the prizes among the winning students. Minahil Butt got the first prize while Momina got second prize and Shah Rukh was awarded third prize.

Addressing the students, the university vice-chancellor Dr Rauf-e-Azam said poets and writers were keen observers of society and they always played a very vital role in building and reformative process of nations. He added a genuine poet was a person with feeling heart and thinking mind, having delicacy of thoughts, diction and expression.

Accidents: A total 951 road traffic accidents were reported in Provincial Monitoring Cell of the Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) in all 37 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours; in which six lives were lost and 601 serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant districts and tehsils.
