PESHAWAR: The parents of students enrolled at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) have expressed reservations over the security of the newly acquired hostel in Chagharmatti village.

Noor Khan, whose daughter has got admission at the SBBWU in M.Phil, said he was worried about the accommodation of his daughter. He criticised the university management for arranging accommodation for students at a college in Chagharmatti village.

He alleged that his daughter was asked to arrange her own accommodation as her classes continue late into the evening and the university could not provide transport at that time. Another parent, who wished not to be named, said he was worried for the security of his daughter. He said the presence of the police armoured vehicle and cops attract the attention of criminal elements. The concerned parent said the area was dangerous and the girl students were spending sleepless nights.

He said his family has decided to cancel admission of his daughter as her security was their first priority. Talking to The News, an official of the university administration on the condition of anonymity told The News that they were faced with shortage of space. The official said the SBBWU administration was being pressured by the Frontier College to vacate the university's City Campus. He added that the SBBWU has no building to relocate the students there from the City Campus. The SBBWU’s main campus is located at Larama village on the outskirts of Peshawar.
