Logo of Inter-Provincial Games unveiled

PESHAWAR: The logo of the 4th edition of the Inter-Provincial Games was unveiled here at the Peshawar Sports Complex on Thursday.

Pakistan Olympic Association Secretary Khalid Mehmood was the chief guest on the occasion. Director General (DG) Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Junaid Khan, Chairman Sports Commission of Pakistan and former provincial minister for sports Syed Aqil Shah, Director Operation Syed Saqlain Shah, organising secretary of the Games Zulfiqar Ali Butt and others were also present.

The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) in collaboration with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Olympic Association and Directorate of Sports are organising the games to be commenced from March 18. The games would be organised at different venues across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Khalid said as many as 1,500 athletes will compete in 26 different events that included archery, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, bodybuilding, gymnastics, handball, hockey, ju-jitsu, kabaddi, karate, rowing, rugby, shooting, softball, squash, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, tug-of-war, volleyball and weightlifting. Beside this, he said men and women cycling competitions would also be organised during the games.

He said 300 athletes each from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Punjab and Sindh provinces will participate in the games. As many as 150 from tribal areas, 100 from Islamabad, 50 from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and 100 from Gilgit-Baltistan would feature in the event.Khalid thanked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for providing Rs40 million for the games.Director General Sports KP Junaid Khan said that the provincial government focused its energies to improve sports infrastructure in the province.

Former provincial minister Syed Aqil Shah, who is also the chairman of the games organising committee, said that preparations are in the final stages.He said the athletes would be provided all the required facilities including accommodation.
