Call to stop privatisation of public utilities
LAHORE: The Prime Minister of Pakistan, National Assembly and Senate should intervene to stop the proposed privatisation of national public utilities Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM).
The authorities concerned should improve management, transparency and professional competence of their organisations. PIA was considered one of the best Airlines of the world led by Air Marshal Asghar Khan, Air Marshal Noor Khan and Pakistan Steel Mills remained a profitable organisation till the political interference and nepotism resulted maladministration and captured it in debt. It was also demanded by the Prime Minister and the Provincial Chief Ministers to bring the workers employed in Government and Semi Government and Private Sector including Commercial, Media and Press to be brought on permanent basis instead of being kept under exploitation as well as get restored the fundamental rights of freedom of democratic Trade Union to the hundreds of thousands of Banks, NADRA and Agriculture Workers in conformity with ILO Convention ratified by the Government of Pakistan.
These demands were raised in a joint press statement by Veteran Trade Union Leader General Secretary Khurshid Ahmed and All Pakistan Workers Confederation President Rubeena Jameel.
