LAHORE: The Punjab Healthcare Commission has closed down 19 businesses of quacks and initiated further proceedings against them.
According to a press release issued here on Thursday, the businesses were sealed during the last two days by PHC teams. They were 13 businesses of general quacks, three each hakeems and bone-setters. At 13 centres, quacks were posing as general physicians.
The names of their businesses included Tahir Medical Store and Clinic, Rafay Medical Centre, Atif Clinic and Hafiz Clinic, Tehseen Clinic, Umar Clinic, Mian Brothers, Rana Clinic, Shafi Clinic, Maitla Homoeo Clinic, Arshad Ali Clinic and Muhammad Yousaf Medical Centre. Three bone-setters were Al-Madni Jarrah, Baba Rehmat Hadi Jorr and Ghulam Mustafa Jarrah. Three Dawakhanas named Ashraf Unani, Moin and Al-Hakeem were also closed down. The spokesperson for the PHC said the Commission has closed down about 7,500 fake treatment centres, and imposed Rs57 million fine on them.
