Prayer for rain offered at IIU

Islamabad: Salat Istisqa, a special prayer for rain, was held on the new campus of the International Islamic University (IIU) here on Thursday afternoon in light of the prolonged dry spell.

The event was held in line with the tradition of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who used to ask the Almighty Allah for rain in this manner whenever there’s a shortage of it. A lack of rainfall during the last many weeks has caused high incidence of respiratory and eye problems as well as foggy conditions in different parts of the country, especially Punjab.

The prayer was led by IIU president Prof Ahmed Yousif Al Draiweesh at the Jamia Masjid, where the university’s vice-presidents, deans, director general, faculty members and students. After the prayer, Dr Al Draiweesh addressed participants and urged them to pray and fear the Almighty Allah. He also prayed for peace and prosperity in the country.
