ISLAMABAD: Deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday once again expressed his bewilderment at the corruption references filed against him and said his hands were clean.
Talking to the Geo News after the accountability court hearing, the PML-N president said he had appeared before courts on a regular basis, adding that he had never indulged in corrupt practices or committed any crime. During the hearing on Wednesday, a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) witness Abdul Wahid [DG Directorate of Electronic Media and Publications] recorded his statement in the supplementary reference against the Sharif family with regard to their London-based Avenfield properties.
The statement was recorded before the accountability court judge, Muhammad Bashir, in which Wahid said he had previously provided CDs containing Nawaz’s address to the nation, speech in the Parliament, interviews of Hussain Nawaz and Maryam Nawaz, to the NAB. Khawaja Harris – leading counsel for the Sharif family – cross-examined the NAB witness and argued that the three CDs provided by the prosecution to him were damaged as an error of insupportable format prompted.
“The player is supporting the videos format and CDs are absolutely fine,” NAB Deputy Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar Abbas quipped. Later, the CDs were also played at the courtroom on the court’s directions.
Subsequently, the court adjourned further hearing of the case due to shortage of time till February 13. Nawaz, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar were attended the proceedings.
