This refers to the news report ‘SC bans 24 mineral water companies’ (Jan 26). It is good to note that the authorities are paying attention to these issues. However, the question is: what is next? What will be done to ensure that every citizen has an access to pure drinking water? The issue of unavailability of clean water is a big one and needs undivided attention of the authorities. Out-of-order and non-functional filter plants have further aggravated the situation.
On the other hand, the presence of the tanker mafia is also alarming. When water in main pipelines is dirty, residents buy water tanks at higher prices – the price of one water tank is in thousands. The problem cannot be resolves unless action is taken against these profiteers. The authorities must take immediate action and ensure that pure water is available at every household.
