More protests in Lakki Marwat against Asma’s murder

LAKKI MARWAT: Though the chief justice of Pakistan has taken notice of the killing of Asma Rani, who was a third year student at the Ayub Medical College Abbottabad, the protest demonstrations are still being held in the home district of the murdered student.

Asma Rani was murdered in Kohat on January 28 after her parents refused to give her hand in marriage to one of the accused Mujahid Afridi, who fled to Saudi Arabia after committing the crime. The incident sparked protests in Lakki Marwat when body of the slain student was brought to Naurang town for burial.

On Wednesday, students and youth took out a rally in Lakki city to condemn the killing of the female student and express solidarity with her family. Led by youth leaders Faisal Kamal and Faqeer Muneeb, the rally started from Shaheed Abid Ali Chowk near Government Postgraduate College Building on Lakki-Tajazai Road and converged at Qazi Ashfaq Chowk near the main bus stand.

The protesters carried banners and placards and chanted raised slogans against the government for failing to arrest the prime accused in the murder case. The protesters demanded the government to arrest Mujahid Afridi and hang him publicly. They said the residents of entire district stood by the bereaved family and would raise voice against the heinous incident at all forums.

The protesters warned that the agitation could turn violent if Mujahid Afridi was not arrested within three days. Also, Jamaat-e-Islami Youth Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president Abdul Ghaffar visited the residence of Ghulam Dastagir in Naurang town to condole the death of her daughter Asma Rani
