SC orders removal of ETPB chairman Siddiqul Farooq
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed sacking of Siddiqul Farooq as the chairman of Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB).
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, hearing a suo motu case regarding Katas Raj pond – directed the federal government to immediately remove Farooq and appoint an apolitical figure on the post
The court the other day had summoned Farooq over his controversial appointment and role in the ETPB which looks after affairs of minorities' religious places in the country. The chief justice had observed that Farooq was working in the office of PML-N.
During the previous hearing in the Katas Raj pond case, he had questioned the appointment of Farooq and observed that his appointment was based upon nepotism. Appearing before the court on Wednesday, Farooq said he worked at the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz office which was also visited by the chief justice sometimes. Meanwhile, the chief justice directed the federal government to remove him from the post and fill the slot with an apolitical figure.
