The body of a 25-year-old man was found inside a water filter plant’s underground tank at Water Ground Lines Area on Wednesday. Brigade police SHO Nasarullah said that area residents informed the police about a body floating inside the underground water tank. A police party reached the site and called in Edhi divers to fish out the body.

It was then moved to the Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for a post-mortem examination, he said, adding that the man was identified as Imran, son of Muhammad Haneef.

Nasarullah said that the heirs told the police that the deceased was a fruit vendor, and on Tuesday evening he had handed cash and his cell phone to another fruit vendor, and asked forgiveness for anything wrong that he might have done to him. The SHO added the exact cause of his death would be ascertained after the arrival of his medico-legal examination report.

Meanwhile, the body of a two-year-old boy was also fished out by navy divers from the Lyari River on Wednesday.

Gulshan-e-Iqbal Division SP Ghulam Murtaza Bhutto said Muhammad Ahmed had gone missing a day earlier, and it was suspected that the minor had drowned into the Lyari River while playing with other children near Moti Mehal.

He said Edhi Foundation divers attended the scene on Tuesday but the rescue operation had to be halted after sunset. After the body was recovered, it was handed over to the family for burial, he added.
