Two cops among four convicted in triple murder case

GUJRANWALA: Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Bushra Zaman on Wednesday awarded death sentence on six counts and life imprisonment on four counts to two accused and life imprisonment on five counts to two co-accused in the case of killing a rival in police custody.
The court awarded death sentence on six counts and life term on four counts to Asif and Jehangir. The two convicts would also pay Rs 320,000 and Rs 200,000 as compensation. The court also awarded life imprisonment on five counts to co-accused sub-inspector Tehsin Khan and constable Liaqat for abetment. The court, however, acquitted co-accused ASI Nazakat, constables Tauseef, Ali Abid and CPO’s steno Afzal, giving them the benefit of doubt.
According to the prosecution, sub-inspector Tehsin Khan along with three policemen was taking Shahabuddin, a murder accused, from Emenabad police station to the sessions courts in a police van on April 5, 2013. On way to the court, Shahab’s rivals Asif and Jehangir opened fire at the police van on GT Road. As a result, Shahab and constables Hafizullah and Gulfam were killed.
