Residents of Lyari staged a demonstration outside the Sindh Assembly building on Wednesday against an increase in extortion cases as well as the deteriorating law and order situation in the area.
Protestors led by Haji Jaleel Rehmani Baba and Faisal Baloch included traders and children who held placards and chanted slogans against the law enforcement agencies.
The demonstrators claimed that teenage boys went around the area demanding large sums of extortion money and threatened shopkeepers of carrying out grenade attacks in case of a resistance. They appealed to DG Rangers as well as Sindh Inspector General Police to take notice of the situation and restore peace in the area.
