ASWJ leader, driver gunned down in Shershah

The latest wave of sectarian killings continued in the city on Wednesday with a senior leader of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), his driver and a Bohra community member falling prey to attacks.
Forty-year-old Dr Fayyaz, general secretary of the ASWJ’s Karachi chapter, and his driver, Mohammed Arif, 32, were gunned down in the Shershah area.
SITE-B SHO Shahzad Illyas said that on his way to Orangi Town, Dr Fayyaz’s car was standing at a traffic signal near Paracha Chowk in the evening when two men pulled up next to his car, opened fire and escaped.
The AWSJ leader and his driver suffered multiple wounds and were rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), where they died.
According to CHK officials, Dr Fayyaz had suffered four bullet wounds, one to the head and the rest to his chest and right shoulder. His driver was hit by two bullets, one each to his neck and left shoulder.
The attackers used a 9mm pistol and four spent bullet shells were found at the scene.
Police termed Dr Fayyaz’s murder a target killing incident. The deceased was a resident of Bijlee Nagar, Mominabad.
After the double murder, AWSJ leaders and activists reached the CHK, where they protested and demanded the arrest of the killers.
A week earlier, a member of the ASWJ’s Karachi Shura and its Korangi district president, 42-year-old Maulana Shabbir Ahmed Haidri, was shot dead near Darul Uloom Korangi, while going with his friend on a motorbike to attend a meeting.

Bohra community man slain
In a late-night attack, armed men killed a Bohra community member and wounded four other people in Dhoraji Market in Bahadurabad.
Sub Divisional Police Officer Mohammad Khalid Khan said four men riding on two motorcycles and wearing helmets opened fire at Burhani Snacks and Samosa Shop, leaving five persons injured, and escaped.
The injured were rushed to Jinnah Hospital, where Khan Mohammad, an employee at Burhani Snacks, succumbed to his injures.
The injured were identified as Shahbir Hussain, the owner of the snacks shop, Shabbir and Mustansar Abbas, owners of Samosa Shop. They were stated to be in a stable condition. The police official said the attackers used a 9mm pistol.
