Not for politics

January 28, 2018

In our country, legislators are adamant on not letting redundant issues go and moving ahead to other problems that are plaguing the system. This results in a number of sessions of parliament being dedicated to matters that have already been dealt with or can be overlooked for other pressing matters. It is not only a waste of resources, but of time and energies of policymakers. All parliamentarians need to understand that the purpose of the institution is not to use it as a ground for their political battles and rivalries.

However, it is meant to be used for genuine day-to-day issues that create a deep cleavage in our society. The institution’s sanctity is violated when it becomes a ground for political rhetoric. Although parliamentarians have the right to discuss all the matters, their prime role is to make laws for the betterment of the people and to counter the prevailing unjust in the country.
