LAHORE: Noted leaders of Kashmiris’ freedom movement and Jamaat-e-Islami on Thursday reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir issue was the leftover agenda of the division of Indo-Pakistan sub-continent and Kashmiris had the lawful right to strive for an end to India’s illegal occupation in Kashmir.

Addressing a Kashmir Solidarity Conference under Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) at Mansoora Thursday, the leaders of JI and All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Jammu and Kashmir warned against an impending nuclear war in the region since both nuclear armed neighbours had already fought four wars on Kashmir issue.

A declaration adopted by the conference presided over by JI ameer Senator Sirajul Haq, said Kashmir was not a cross-border or a bilateral issue, nor had the liberation movement any link with terrorism, but 10 million Kashmiri Muslims were suffering under India’s state terrorism in form of massacre, maiming, rapes and arson, adding that freedom loving human beings all over the world should support Kashmiris’ liberation struggle. The meeting called upon Pakistan to keep Kashmir as top priority, run extensive diplomatic campaign to highlight India’s brutalities in consultation with the Kashmiri leadership to show Indian army’s crimes against humanity at every forum and force New Delhi to ultimately liberate Kashmir.

The meeting called for convening a special meeting of the OIC and taking up the Kashmir issue at the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council. The meeting demanded a Focal Person be appointed at the Foreign Office to highlight the issue at world level.
