Walk held to create awareness about tourism

PESHAWAR: A walk was held on Tuesday from Gor Khatri to the end of Heritage Trail to create awareness about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of tourism.

The Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) and the Task Force committee on Sustainable Development Goals on Tourism had jointly organised the walk.

Members of the Task Force committee, including MPAs Shaukat Ali Yousafzai, Fazal Elahi, Nirgas Ali led the walk. Secretary Sports, Tourism, Culture, Archaeology, Museums and Youth Affairs Muhammad Tariq, TCKP Managing Director Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, Director Archaeology Dr Abdul Samad and others also participated in the walk.

Director Archaeology Dr Abdul Samad briefed the participants on the Heritage Trail project and its salient features.

Speaking on the occasion, the MPAs said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led provincial government had taken solid steps for the promotion of tourism in the province.

They said the Heritage Trail Project would be completed by March while six more such sites had been identified where similar projects would be launched to boost tourism and preserve the historic places.

The legislators said the Heritage Trail Project would be completed at a cost of Rs301.5 million to renovate and refurbish facade of 75 heritage buildings and structures out of 150 with a cultural and historical touch along 450 meters distance in this historic City of Peshawar. The ‘cultural heritage trail’ is meant for attracting domestic and foreign tourists.

The project, which aims to make access to historical landmarks in Peshawar easier, will help showcase the city’s historical past in a more pleasant manner. The Heritage Trail starts from Ghanta Ghar and passes through Baazar-e-Kalan and the Sethian Mohallah.
