An ugly race

The race to win vacant seats in the Senate is on. Hectic efforts, fair or foul, are being made by different political parties or independents to make to the upper house of parliament.
The ruling PML-N has proposed an amendment to the constitution to stop horse-trading during the elections. However, all political parties have reacted to the proposal according to their vested interests. This time around there is a brighter side to the whole issue, a proactive media is actively exposing immoral elements involved in the exercise of horse trading. Returning officers, the Election Commission, civil society and courts can also play their role in blocking these unscrupulous elements by invoking Articles 62 and 63.
