KARACHI: Karachi Port Trust had handled 5.28 percent more cargo in the first six months of the current fiscal year of 2017/18, a statement said
“The port handled a total of 27.198 million metric tons of dry, bulk, liquid, and containerised cargo during July-December period of 2017/18 compared to 25.83 million metric tons handled in the same period last fiscal,” the KPT said in a statement.
“The container handling also increased to 1.107 million twenty equivalent units (TEUs) in the period compared to 0.967 million TEUs last year.”
The KPT added that the exports cargo handling surged 14.86 percent to 5.525 million metric tons against 4.810 million metric tons in the corresponding period a year ago.
“The imports cargo increased 3.09 percent to reach about 21.673 million metric tons compared to 21.024 million metric tons in the same period of the previous fiscal,” the Trust said.
