Tax net expansion, tax cases

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Revenue Haroon Akhtar Khan chaired a meeting of the Tax Reforms Implementation Committee at FBR Headquarters here on Thursday and made important decisions.

The minister told the meeting that to improve tax collection from tobacco companies, a trace and track electronic monitoring system would be implemented across the country very soon. In consultation with all stakeholders, more taxpayers would be brought under the tax net, Info-Tech function in FBR would be streamlined, tax litigation management system would be made more effective and the audit of FBR taxpayers’ accounts would be modernised.

The meeting lasted for many hours and the FBR members including Land Revenue Operations Khwaja Tanvir Ahmad, Member Customs Zahid Khokhar, Member Policy Dr Muhammad Iqbal, Member Taxpayers Audit Rehmatullah Khan Wazir, Member Legal Dr Tariq Masood, Member Fate Nosheen Amjad, Member Admin Tasnimur Rehman, Director General Withholding Tax Mahmood Aslam DG Broadening of Tax Base Tanvir Ahmad Malik and members of the implementation committee attended the meeting.

The meeting decided that another meeting would be held on Jan 24 to discuss one-point agenda of implementation of trace and track electronic monitoring system for tobacco companies. The Tax Reforms Implementation Committee would meet again on mid-February.
