ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Tuesday hinted at carrying out scrutiny of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf foreign funding (documents), as PTI finance secretary contended there was no significance of the matter after the Supreme Court asked for scrutiny of all parties’ funds.
The five-member bench, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Justice (R) Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan, here at the Election Commission secretariat resumed hearing into the party funding case and the petitioner Akbar S Babar’s lawyer wanted to share fresh evidence, having been received from some party activists regarding alleged illegal funding from Denmark and the Middle East.
However, the bench questioned why they had not provided the evidence earlier and then maintained that this might be submitted when the scrutiny of the PTI foreign funds would be conducted. The lawyer claimed the evidence was concealed by PTI at the time of submitting the related details to the Election Commission in response to its direction.
