Governor, mayor discuss progress on Karachi development projects

Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar called on Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair at the Governor House on Monday. During the meeting, the progress in connection with the Karachi development projects came up for discussion along with the federally-assisted ongoing development projects in the metropolis, including Greenline, Lyari Expressway, and K-IV water projects.

It was agreed that the federal government’s assistance would help ensure prosperity in the metropolis. The governor pointed out that Karachi was the country’s economic lifeline and its progress and development was the government’s priority. He said the completion of Greenline project would provide modern transport facility to the people. Zubair said the Lyari Expressway would be inaugurated in the current month.

The governor said the K-IV project would help provide additional water to the people of Karachi. “The federally-assisted development projects worth Rs75 billion are also being executed in the metropolis,” he added.

The city mayor praised the governor’s role towards the development of the city. He said the federal government was fully assisting the progress work for Karachi and that the people of the city appreciated the federal government’s efforts for the city’s betterment.

UAE envoy meets mayor

Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar has said the increasing foreign investment in Karachi is a good omen for the country’s progress and that the investors from the UAE were also being welcomed to explore the lucrative opportunities.

“Pakistan and the UAE enjoy brotherly relations that will surely get stronger in future,” he said while talking to UAE Ambassador Hamad Obaid Alzaabi, who visited the KMC Head Office on Monday. The diplomat was accompanied by UAE Consul General Nasser Huwaiden Al Ketbi.

The city mayor welcomed the guests and informed them about the development projects and public welfare works which the KMC and the municipal bodies were carrying out to provide better civic facilities to people in Karachi.

The UAE ambassador appreciated the endeavors of the present local government for bringing improvement in provision of the municipal services. He said investors from the UAE were keen to invest the metropolitan’s development projects and he would tell them about the opportunities for investment in Karachi.

He expressed hope that the efforts of the present local government would prove to be beneficial for the citizens of this mega city and people in Karachi would get better facilities in future. The mayor said Karachi held a unique position in the region due to its international status and ports. “This city would play key role in future commercial activities,” he added. He said the industrial zones in Karachi provide huge revenues to the country and all these were being upgraded and made better.
