89-member Pak contingent finalised for Commonwealth Games
ISLAMABAD: An 89-member Pakistan contingent has been finalised to participate in 10 disciplines of the XXI Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games scheduled for April 4-15 in Australia.Ten disciplines to be participated by Pakistan include athletics, badminton, boxing, hockey, shooting, squash, swimming, table tennis, weightlifting and wrestling.
A meeting of the presidents/secretaries general of the concerned sports federations in connection with the Commonwealth Games was held on January 10 at Olympic House in Lahore under the chairmanship of Lt Gen (r) Syed Arif Hasan to discuss and share certain important information with the federations as well as to get their feedback on account of preparations and performance.
Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Director General Dr Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera also attended the meeting for effective coordination and adequate arrangements for the event.Various issues including submission of online accreditation of athletes and officials, preparation and training camps of the concerned sports federations, performance of athletes, submission of final entry by name, visa status of the participating athletes and officials and arrival, departure information were discussed in the meeting.
The concerned participating federations gave their PowerPoint presentations to the chair and discussed in detail the matters related to the Games.Ganjera ensured PSB’s full cooperation for providing maximum facilities to the participating athletes.The POA president and all the stakeholders appreciated the support of PSB for the Games.
